REMEMBERING EDGAR MULRAINE

Edgar David McConnie Mulraine - 1/21/1929 to 12/18/2003

Edgar Mulraine, a life-long resident of Barrouallie, worked as a farmer and fisherman nearly all his life. A devoted husband, father, Christian, and community member, he raised a large and successful family. As the son of harpooner Frank Mulraine, one of the early whalers of Barrouallie, young "Master Mic" took up whaling as a teenager and pursued this occupation for many years. At other times, he worked in Trinidad and cut cane in Florida. Mr. Mulraine served as a lance corporal on the police force and later, an auxiliary policeman and a justice of the peace.

The most senior member of the Barrouallie Whalers, an "old head", Mulraine could recall persons and events of his youth and stories of his father's generation. He was the man who first, in 2001, introduced Reid and Lanier to other whalers in Barrouallie. We will dearly miss Mulraine, his great enthusiasm, faith, and love.

His beloved pastor, the Rev. Alan Berry, offered the following remembrance of his friend, Brother Mulraine:

While he did sing for the Barrouallie Whalers, he also sang faithfully for
His Lord Jesus Christ for over 50 years. He had a testimony that he loved
the Lord and wanted to serve him. He was an inspiration to many, including
his present pastor.

His contact with the Barrouallie Whalers broadened the horizons of many
here in Barrouallie.

Now that he has made his final voyage, we know that he will be missed, and
not forgotten.

We wish to have a small memorial here to the life of Edgar Mulraine. We welcome your contributions of words or photographs in his memory. Please send your remembrances or other offerings to us by clicking here or e-mailing us at info@barrwhalers.org.
